Things to Do in Dubai Marina: 7 Visitor Picks With Real Costs and Timings

Every pick states its cost, time and location. Prices were checked on 30 September 2026.

1. Walk the Marina Walk promenade

Cost: free.
Time needed: 1.5 to 2.5 hours for the full 7 km loop; about 40 minutes for the best section.
Location: the loop around the marina canal; start at the Dubai Marina Mall promenade.

Start with the walk itself. Marina Walk is a paved 7 km promenade looping the marina canal, and it is the single best free thing on this list. You will pass moored yachts, waterfront cafés and bridge viewpoints over the water. Skip the full loop: the eastern stretch from Dubai Marina Mall to the first big bridge takes about 40 minutes at a stroll and covers the highlights. Come after 5pm, when the heat drops and the towers light up.

2. Ride the XLine Dubai Marina zipline

Cost: AED 699 adult; AED 499 for young adventurers aged 12 to 16, video and photos included. The official page does not state whether VAT is included, so check at checkout.
Time needed: about 1 hour including briefing.
Location: check-in at the XLine booth, Dubai Marina Mall, L2 parking.

The XLine is a 1 km zipline launching from 170 m and reaching 80 km/h over the marina. Sessions run daily 10:00am to 12:20pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Riders must be 12 to 65, weigh 45 to 100 kg and be at least 130 cm tall; under-18s need a parent present. Wear closed shoes and modest clothing; skirts, dresses and flip-flops are not allowed. Book the official XLine page direct: tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

3. Tandem skydive over Palm Jumeirah

Cost: AED 2,749, including photos and videos.
Time needed: half a morning; expect 3 to 4 hours on site.
Location: Skydive Dubai Palm Drop Zone, Al Seyahi Street, at the edge of Dubai Marina.

A tandem jump from the Palm Drop Zone is the priciest item on this list, but the price includes photos and videos, and the freefall passes over Palm Jumeirah. Jumps run 7:00 to 11:00am; the drop zone is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. You must be 18 to 75, avoid alcohol for 24 hours before, and weight and BMI limits apply. Book 1 to 3 months ahead. Details are in our Skydive Dubai guide.

4. Ride the RTA Dubai Ferry

Cost: fares from AED 15 to AED 70 by route; Marina Mall to Dubai Mall costs AED 68.25 adult and AED 52.50 child (5 to 12).
Time needed: 1 to 2.5 hours depending on the route.
Location: Marina Mall Marine Transport Station, behind Dubai Marina Mall.

The RTA Dubai Ferry is the cheapest way to see Dubai from the water, and most area guides ignore it. Boats leave the Marina Mall station for the coast toward Atlantis and the Palm, plus a 1 hour 20 minute Dubai Mall service. Network fares range from AED 15 to AED 70 by route; check the official RTA ferry page before you go. This is the Dubai Ferry, not the RTA Water Taxi: separate services, separate fares.

5. AquaFun floating water park

Cost: AED 225 plus 5% VAT, a total of AED 236.25, for the official Day Pass.
Time needed: half a day.
Location: JBR Beach (Marina Beach), by the Marina.

AquaFun is a floating obstacle course off the beach, and the best-value paid activity for families. The Day Pass covers full-day access, a life jacket, non-slip socks and a waterproof mobile bag. It opens 9:00am to sunset daily with a midday break from 12:00 to 3:00pm. Riders must be at least 6 and able to swim, and children under 12 need an adult with them. Book on the official AquaFun tickets page: third-party tickets are not accepted, and bookings are non-refundable.

6. Dubai Marina Mall

Cost: free entry.
Time needed: 1 to 2 hours as a heat break.
Location: eastern side of the marina, next to the Dubai Marina Mall tram station.

Use the mall as your air-conditioned base rather than a destination. Dubai Marina Mall holds more than 140 shops and restaurants next to its own tram station, and the XLine check-in booth sits on the L2 parking level. Mall hours run 10:00am to 10:00pm Sunday to Thursday and 10:00am to 11:00pm Friday and Saturday. Come for the midday heat break and the promenade access, not for a shopping spree.

7. Swim and sunbathe at Marina Beach (JBR)

Cost: free.
Time needed: half a day.
Location: The Walk, JBR; a short tram ride or about 15 minutes on foot from Dubai Marina Mall.

Marina Beach at JBR is the public beach the Marina itself is missing, a short hop from the district. Swimming and the promenade are free, and AquaFun floats just offshore. Come early for calm water or late for sunset, then walk back to the Marina for dinner. It pairs well with Bluewaters Island just offshore.

Things to Do in Dubai Marina for Free: 6 Free Picks

You can fill a day here without paying for a single attraction; these free things to do in Dubai Marina are the ones most property portals skip.

The Marina Walk promenade with waterfront cafés and strolling visitors at Dubai Marina

  • Walk the full Marina Walk loop at sunrise or after 5pm. The 7 km circuit is free at any hour.
  • Watch sunset from the west-side promenade, where the marina mouth faces the open sea.
  • Swim at Marina Beach (JBR). Free entry, free promenade, and the towers as your backdrop.
  • Spot yachts along the marina berths. The biggest boats moor near the mall end of the Walk.
  • Browse Dubai Marina Mall for free. The air-conditioning is the point on a hot afternoon.
  • Photograph the twisted Cayan Tower and the waterfront mosque from the promenade; both are free to admire.

Dubai Marina Half-Day Route: Walking Times From Mall to Sunset

This route covers the best things to do in Dubai Marina in one afternoon and evening, with no taxi needed inside the district. Walking times are estimates based on the 7 km loop; your pace and photo stops decide the rest.

Where to Stay Near Dubai Marina

Dubai Marina works as a base if you want beach and city in one trip: the promenade and Marina Beach are on foot, and the metro reaches Downtown in about 25 minutes. Couples and families get the most from it; for nightlife, stay closer to Downtown instead.

Two checks matter more than star ratings. First, check the hotel’s position against the tram line: landward hotels sit nearer the metro stations, while waterfront ones need the AED 3 tram or a 10 to 15 minute walk. Second, a JBR-side hotel puts the beach first and the marina second. Our full area-by-area breakdown is in where to stay in Dubai.

Things to Do in Dubai Marina: What to Skip

  • Third-party tickets for XLine and AquaFun.
XLine tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, and AquaFun does not accept third-party tickets at all. If a reseller looks cheaper, there is a reason. Book both direct.
  • Yacht tours from promenade touts.
Licensed operators publish prices and routes in writing; a tout’s verbal price is not a booking. Walk away from anyone selling cruises without a booth.
  • The full 7 km loop at midday from May to September.
Walk the eastern section early morning or after 5pm, and spend the hot hours in the mall or on a ferry instead.
  • Driving to the marina at peak hours.
The district is built around the tram and parking near the mall fills up on weekends; metro plus tram is usually faster.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dubai Marina

Is Dubai Marina worth visiting?

Yes, for most first-time visitors. The Marina Walk and the beach are free, and the skyline views at dusk are genuinely good. It is worth half a day even if you stay elsewhere: arrive in the late afternoon, walk the promenade, take the RTA ferry or a dhow cruise, and leave after dinner. Skip it only if your trip is under two days and Old Dubai or the Burj Khalifa rank higher.

How much time do you need in Dubai Marina?

Half a day covers the highlights: the Marina Walk, the mall, sunset and dinner. Add half a day for the beach or a paid activity like the XLine or AquaFun. A full day plus an evening dhow cruise is the comfortable maximum; beyond that, use the metro to see the rest of Dubai.

How do you get to Dubai Marina by metro?

Take the Red Line to DMCC or Sobha Realty, then the Dubai Tram toward the mall and JBR stations. The tram costs AED 3 and runs about every 8 minutes; the metro-to-tram transfer counts as one journey if you tap within 30 minutes. From the airport the metro takes about 50 minutes; a taxi takes 30 to 40 minutes and costs about AED 95 to 110.

Is Dubai Marina free to visit?

Yes. The Marina Walk, Marina Beach, sunset viewpoints and the mall all cost nothing. You only pay for extras: the XLine at AED 699, the ferry from AED 15, AquaFun at AED 236.25 including VAT, plus food and cruises. A full day here can genuinely cost you nothing but lunch.

Can you swim in Dubai Marina?

Not in the marina canal itself: it is a working waterway for yachts and cruise boats. Swim at Marina Beach on the JBR side instead, a short tram ride from the mall. The beach is free and AquaFun sits just offshore for ages 6 and up. Check the beach flag warnings before getting in.

Getting to Dubai Marina: Metro, Tram and Taxi

The nearest metro stations are DMCC and Sobha Realty on the Red Line, on the landward edge of the district. Simplest route: Red Line to DMCC, then the Dubai Tram to Dubai Marina Mall station; Sobha Realty suits the southern end.

Inside the district, the tram is your transport. It costs AED 3 per trip on a Nol card, runs Monday to Saturday 6:00am to 1:00am and Sunday 9:00am to 1:00am about every 8 minutes, and the metro-to-tram transfer counts as one journey if you tap within 30 minutes. The waterfront is a 10 to 15 minute walk from either metro station; the tram covers it in minutes. If you are a Person of Determination, contact each paid attraction before booking to confirm its access arrangements.

On a Silver Nol card, the metro costs AED 7.50 from the airport (3 zones) and AED 5 from Downtown (2 zones). RTA taxis start at AED 5 by day and AED 5.50 at night with a AED 12 minimum, plus AED 4 per Salik gate; airport trips start at AED 25. Once you arrive, the best things to do in Dubai Marina are all walkable or one tram ride apart.
